LDAP
The DNS is an example of a
global directory
service...
- it is distributed across many cooperating
machines
- it has a uniform namespace
- uniform means that you have the same view
of the data no matter where you are in relation to it
- e.g. the name, "Stanford.EDU" is the same
no matter where in the Internet you use it, and the DNS returns
the same information when you use it
